Preliminary task diary

In this task, we were practising the rules of filming. In this short clip which we made, we included match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180 rule. I thought that this task went well because we included three different types of editing rules. These were easy to place into the clip because they seem to all fit in well with each other. The editing process went well also because we knew when to cut the shots to make the clip flow without any jumps. This made our clip more effective.

Some problem areas which we experienced was that the conversation flowed to quickly, making the speech seem fake. This could be changed by adding breaths at the start of each sentence. Also, we experienced the background moving a lot suggesting that the camera was not steady. This could be improved by using a tripod or by resting the camera against something such as a wall.

Some skills which we need to improve on is holding the camera steady and not at an angle. This will improve the quality of the film because it will look more professional. Also, we should add in more editing rules because then the film will take more effort and look better.

We did not manage to use all of the film practises because we ran out of ideas to use. The ones which we had included were a much better choice for us because the clip flowed well between shots. I think there should of been the rule of thirds as this would have made the film look more effective.
