Pitching our ideas

The narrative of the film will be a relationship that includes of an internet relationship, which comes to life as the opening two minutes will be of the couple having a meet up. During the film they will meet in London together. In the opening two minutes the audience will see an introduction to the setting, as they will see the female protagonist texting whilst going shopping with her friends. Her personality will shown as a really anti social, as she pays a lot of her attention to her phone. During the film the audience will see how this online couple get very close and are very eager to meet up. they make a lot of plan together, which they intend to do, keeping promises with in it. However we will see a jealous antagonist, which is get finds out about the female protagonist's online love, relationship, and she develops feelings for the male protagonist who is slowly introduced at the end of the opening. The antagonist will start to show jealousness as she intervenes by starting to have conversations with the male protagonist as well, and starts to create problems for the two protagonists, as they will comes across with different problems, with rumors being spread around about them which will cause the couple to break up. Soon after the male protagonist will find out what has been going and will start to apologize to the female protagonist, as it was not either of there faults, and see that the antagonist will break down when starts to see the couple get back together, and slowly drift away from there relationship, which brings the couple closer and the ending will show there first meet back in London during the evening time, and they will spend time together for the first time.

The codes and conventions of our film is a romance,  The opening two minutes will introduce a female and male protagonist who intend to meet, the female will be expressing her feelings and emotions throughout the voice over that the audience is greeted with. Another code and convention is that the beginning will include a lot of shots of  scenery, i.e. busy town, with shops with Christmas lights. The setting of the film will be during Christmas time, as the audience can relate as most couple will intend to spend time together a lot during this time of year, which creates special moments for them, so they can relate to some of the narrative of the film. The antagonist will be jealous of the situation because she wants the relationship like what her friend has, which links to a typical conventions as the male protagonist will come across as attractive, so jealousy will occur.  There will be calm non-diegetic music in the background, to reflect romantic atmosphere which the audience can relate to.

The possible setting of the film would be in a popular area such as London, because the audience can relate as they may have been in that specific location, so it will recognizable for them as this is the one place which will create romantic atmosphere. The time of day will be an afternoon or late evening; this will be at a time where Christmas lights are on so it will feel more magical and loving, and can add to make it more of an intimate scene with our film. Within the opening two minutes we will have the day time scene with lights, and with a busy town, to show that Christmas is one of the most busiest times of year. We might also have a coffee shop scene where the couple will meet, as this links to a code and convention of a romance film.

The characters which we will in the film will be a female protagonist who is anti-social, caring, funny and intelligent personality, along with an attractive male protagonist with a hidden character in person compared to himself online. There will also be an antagonist which will be the female protagonists friend. She will be jokey, vein and jealous. Also she might be sensitive to other peoples feelings, as she will intervene in the protagonists relationship and start to create problems, this could make her come across to be selfish as she would only be thinking of herself.

Some of the props that we will plan on using will be:
  • A phone
  • Flowers
  • Christmas lights
  • Coats and scarfs
  • Casual wear
Some of the opening shots will include, close up to show the protagonist holding the phone at the beginning followed by a tracking shot to follow her actions. Also there will be an extreme close up of different facial features which will reflect a the female protagonist emotions, as the voice over will compliment it by talking about her feelings with the audience, making them feel like they are involved, so for example there will be a shot of her lips smiling, then the camera will cut and will show a her eyes, and then we will see a long shot of her friends, and the camera will come closer to  reveal the female protagonist. we will also have a over the shoulder shot of some of the characters talking. The opening will include start off by hide the protagonists face leaving an enigma for the audience to watch on to find out who this person is this will be shown through the close up shots. A medium shot to start revealing her attitude and body language. This will also be used for the tracking shot. There will be an establishing shot so the mise-en-scene will be known to the audience. This will show the streets and setting of the film. An over the shoulder shot will be used to reveal other characters in the film and to also show communication between two characters. This will be done through facial expressions as there will be a voice over.

The mise-en-scene will be the female protagonist on a busy street, texting this unknown character. She will be surrounded by crowds of people and her friend who are going out for the day.  this will be effective, because it will show as she will just zones out from real life into an online life or relationship, which shows that she will show a lot more attention to her online life rather than real life. This will be shown through the crowd of people as she wont show as much attention to them.  There will also be Christmas lights to show the theme and the genre of the film. A late afternoon time which will allow low key lighting to create a romantic atmosphere of the film.
