The strength and weaknesses of our short film

Strengths and weaknesses of our short film.

The strengths of the film that we had made were that the camera shots worked effectively as they cut in the right places. We did not have to do much cutting in the editing process because they all seemed to fit together well as it were. The place we cut was right at the end of the last clip because we thought that adding in the effect of fading to black would work well with the shorter ending. The film had to include the line "what are you doing here?" which we saved until last as we all thought that this was the best option as it will engage the audience more as they will want to know where the character (Hannah Burgess) was going. We had filmed the second character (Fahmida Akther) as she was walking down the hall way as this was effective. We had originally kept in that she was stood still but decided that it worked better if it looked like she had already begun walking.

The weaknesses in the short film was that the camera was unsteady but this can easily be fixed when we come to the next filming task as we could use a tripod which would hold the camera still. We could of also used different paces of what the character was walking as this would have become more effective to build tension. This could be something to improve upon when it comes to filming. Also, we could have also had the camera moving towards the character when she is walking down the corridor as this would have made the audience feel like they are focussing on her. This could also have included a close up of the two characters once they meet so that the audience can view the characters and what they are like from their facial expressions and through their body language. Another weakness would be that there should be some music in the opening as the character walking down the corridor can be boring to watch when there is no sound in the background.

Some targets to set for the future is that the camera needs to be steady for the filming but this can changed by using a tripod. Also, the person filming should follow the protagonist as this will ensure the audience of who they are focussing on and on whom the story is about. Another target would be using music in the background and also more sounds as this will become more interesting for the audience to watch. Also, using music will help create the atmosphere of the opening and to also show what the genre is. Finally, I think that there should be credits either at the end or at the opening of the film as this will tell the audience of who is in the film and also the acknowledgements.
